HONG KONG, June 2, 2005 - American International Assurance Company (Bermuda) Limited (AIA) today organised the ‘AIA Egypt Night’ at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. More than 3,000 customers and agents joined the event.

Officiating guests included Mr. Alwin Lam, Executive Vice President and General Manager of AIA; Dr. Patrick Ho, Secretary for Home Affairs, HK SAR; Ms. Somaya Saad, Consul General of Egypt in Hong Kong and Macao; Mr. Bernard Chan, Executive and Legislative Councillor; and Mr. Ward Platt, Managing Director and Executive Vice President, National Geographic Channel Asia.

Mr. Alwin Lam, Executive Vice President and General Manager of AIA said: “AIA has launched a series of large-scale customer events under the theme of ‘Your Dreams Come True with AIA’. Following the success of the ‘Coliseum Dream Comes True’ Singing Contest, the ‘Egypt-Pharaohs Exploration’ program offers participation to the ‘AIA Egypt Night’ in which participating customers can learn more about Dr. Zahi Hawass’ latest archaeological finds and preservation projects in Egypt, and to enjoy a preview of National Geographic Channel’s premiere special ‘Tut: Resurrected.’”

“We are delighted to announce that a lucky draw will be organized from which 20 customers will be able to realise their dreams to join the National Geographic Expedition to Egypt this coming October,” added Mr. Lam. During the trip, this group of customers will be able to meet with Dr. Hawass and enjoy unique exploration to the history and mysteries of the Pharaohs.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of “AIA Egypt Night,” Mr. Ward Platt, Managing Director and Executive Vice President, National Geographic Channel Asia, said: “We are delighted to partner with AIA to present the premiere ‘Tut: Resurrected,’ part of Pharaohs Week, to audiences throughout Asia. Through the support of National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Dr. Zahi Hawass, we are also pleased to be able to share unique insights on ancient Egypt, one of the four greatest civilizations in the world.”

A prelude to the “Egypt-Pharaohs Exploration” program, the ‘AIA Egypt Night’ is supported by National Geographic Channel and the Consul-General of Egypt in Hong Kong and Macao. Egypt-themed venue decoration and cultural performances made this splendid event a success.

To reward customers for their support, the highlight of the evening was a lucky draw with prizes worth more than HK$90,000, including air tickets to Cairo, valuable crystal pyramids and discount coupons from a renowned Egyptian restaurant. Also, 20 lucky customers won the chance to enter a quiz game with another 80 new customers. They will compete for the 20 places to join the Egypt exploration in this October.

Ancient Egypt wrote a glorious page in the history of mankind. As the 12th ruler of ancient Egypt’s 18th dynasty, the legendary King Tutankhamun (King Tut) ascended the throne when he was about eight or nine years old, around 1335 BCE. He died when he was aged between 17 years and 19 years. Since the discovery of his tomb by archaeologists in 1922, the age at death and the cause of death are no longer subject of intense debate. After more than 80 years of study by many experts, the mystery has now been eventually solved by Dr. Hawass and his team of experts.
