February
24, 2007, Hong Kong – 1,600
children from different charitable organizations today enjoyed
a full-filled Chinese New Year holiday at the AIA Hong Kong World
Carnival by participating in the “Carnival Dream Comes
True” event organized by the AIA Foundation and co-organized
by the Home Affairs Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government.
Honorary guests at the ceremony included Mr. Derek Yung, Director of the AIA Foundation; Mrs. Carrie Lam, JP, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs and Mrs. Pamela Tan, JP, Director of Home Affairs. The officiating guests were joined by Ms. Shelley Lee, GBS and representatives of charitable organizations to take part in this meaningful event.
Mr. Derek Yung said: “To demonstrate the corporate citizenship of AIA, the Foundation has been serving the Hong Kong community by supporting a wide range of charitable causes since its establishment in 1995. The AIA Hong Kong World Carnival is the last mega event at Tamar Site before the construction of the new Government Offices. We are delighted to organize the ‘Carnival Dream Comes True’ by inviting 1,600 children to visit the Carnival and share the joy and happiness of the auspicious Chinese New Year.”
“To exemplify AIA’s spirit of giving back to the community, the AIA Foundation has also mobilized 120 representatives and staff of AIA, as well as a group of young leaders to be the volunteers of today’s event. Through accompanying the children to the carnival, the volunteers can help the children to realize their dreams, and let these children feel the warm heart and care from the community.” added Mr. Yung.
Mrs. Carrie Lam, JP, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, said: “The event is a good example of the collaboration of government departments, charitable organizations and private sector to promote community services. I hope that in the future, more corporations from the private sector will participate in serving the community and organize meaningful activities to deliver benevolence and care to the needy groups and help build a harmonious society.”
Charitable organizations participating in the “Carnival Dream Comes True” event include the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, Po Leung Kuk, Lok Sin Tong, Pok Oi Hospital, Yan Chai Hospital and Yan Oi Tong.
