AIA Athletes Insurance Awards
In support of HK Delegation in the forthcoming Olympic Games, Asian Games and East Asian Games


   
Hong Kong August 6, 2004 - American International Assurance Company (Bermuda) Limited (AIA) today launched the AIA Athletes Insurance Awards, its sponsorship scheme for outstanding athletes from the Hong Kong delegation at major international sporting events. Spanning a period from 2004 to 2008, the sponsorship scheme will cover the Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Olympics, as well as the 2005 East Asian Games and 2006 Asian Games.

Mr Alwin Lam, Executive Vice President and General Manager of AIA, said, “AIA has always been committed to promoting the importance of a healthy lifestyle. As such, we are delighted to play a supporting role to the local sporting community. The objective of establishing the AIA Athletes Insurance Awards is to reward our elite athletes who are awarded gold, silver and bronze medals in both the summer and winter Olympic Games, Asian Games and East Asian Games from 2004 to 2008. Through our scheme, we hope to recognize their achievements and sacrifices by providing them with insurance plans containing elements of both life protection and savings accumulation.''

As a good corporate citizen, we wish to pay tribute to our Hong Kong medal winners by offering each of them a whole-life savings plan and a 15-year term plan," added Mr. Lam.

For team events, each medallist from the Hong Kong delegation will receive two insurance plans with sum assured based on the table below. For example, a team of two will each receive plans worth 50% of the above sum assured.
