AIA Hong Kong and Union Hospital today announced the joint establishment of AIA Union GI & Specialists Centre (“AIA Union” or “the Centre”). The Centre officially commenced operation on 25 November 2019 and offers gastrointestinal endoscopy, diagnosis and related minor day surgeries in the initial stage. As Hong Kong's first medical centre joint venture between the insurance and healthcare sectors, AIA Union features facilities exceeding the standards set out in the Private Healthcare Facilities Ordinance. Integrating Union Hospital's expertise in clinical governance and AIA Hong Kong's experience in offering medical protection services, the Centre offers affordable and high quality medical services to the general public. Details of fees are listed in a clear manner, while proceeds from the Centre will be allocated back to support medical research and enhance the Centre's facilities to build a sustainable healthcare ecosystem.
Located at AIA Tower in North Point, AIA Union was set up and came into full operation under the supervision of Dr. York Chow, Chief Medical Officer and Corporate Advisor of AIA Hong Kong & Macau. With a total gross floor area of over 5,000 square feet, the Centre has a pharmacy, two consultation rooms, four operating rooms equipped with advanced instruments and hospital-standard ventilation systems, and 12 VIP consultation and recovery rooms. The Centre features currently most state-of-the-art instruments, including endoscope reprocessors and drying cabinets. It is presently staffed by 12 full-time medical specialists and assistants, while its clinical governance and advisory team comprises experienced surgeons and renowned physician-professors. The Centre is open to the public, and the AIA ambassador at the Centre will assist AIA Hong Kong customers to understand the pre-approval process and handle enquiries on policy-related matters, offering customers a one-stop service experience. AIA Hong Kong customers under designated individual medical protection plans, such as AIA Voluntary Health Insurance Flexi Scheme and Prime Scheme, can also enjoy pre-approval and cashless arrangement service*.
Peter Crewe, Chief Executive Officer of AIA Hong Kong & Macau, said, “Over the years, AIA Hong Kong has been leading the industry with its forward-looking vision, offering customers suitable medical protection solutions and addressing their needs in their health journey from prevention, treatment to rehabilitation. Union Hospital is one of Hong Kong's most renowned private hospitals and is highly acclaimed for its quality services; it also shares the same service philosophy and core values with AIA Hong Kong. Our collaboration integrates our professional strengths and brings about Hong Kong's first-ever medical centre joint venture between the insurance and healthcare sectors, offering quality and reliable medical services to more people. We are confident that the Centre will further enhance the quality of Hong Kong's medical services, create shared value for the society and help more people live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives.”
Dr. Anthony Lee, Chief Hospital Manager and Medical Director of Union Hospital, said, “Union Hospital has always been striving to provide the public with professional medical services that are highly-regarded by the general public. As a leader in the insurance industry, AIA Hong Kong thoroughly understands the public's protection needs. This collaboration combines our respective expertise in medical services and insurance areas to offer an additional channel to serve the public. Gastrointestinal disease is common in Hong Kong; the timely establishment of the Centre addresses the society's needs, and helps to alleviate the pressure on the demand for related healthcare services. I am confident that the Centre's customers will receive the same high-quality, reliable and caring medical services that Union Hospital has always delivered.”
Dr. York Chow, Chief Medical Officer and Corporate Advisor of AIA Hong Kong & Macau, remarked, “The Centre's facility standard, corporate governance, clinical quality, pricing transparency and etc. all meet or exceed the relevant requirements set out in the Private Healthcare Facilities Ordinance that will take effect in 2020, thus setting a high benchmark for operators of similar medical centres. To deliver the best customer experience, each patient has their own VIP consultation and recovery room, while the whole process – from examination, diagnosis to surgery – is designed with high level of privacy in mind without having patients to leave their beds, ensuring a streamlined one-stop customer service. Each room has vital signs monitoring to ensure patient care is at the highest safety standards, exemplifying AIA's ‘customer-centric' philosophy.”
