AIA Hong Kong Named “Best Employer Hong Kong” for Second Consecutive Year

1 August 2017
AIA Hong Kong has been named “Best Employer Hong Kong 2017” by global consulting firm, Aon Hewitt, and holds the distinction of being the first insurer in Hong Kong to be honoured with this accolade for two years running. The award is a testament to AIA Hong Kong and Macau's success in creating a positive corporate culture via its excellent talent management and development strategy, enabling continued strong business growth.
Mr. Peter Crewe, Chief Executive Officer of AIA Hong Kong and Macau, said, “The Aon Hewitt Best Employer award is a highly credible recognition in the business community. Winning this prestigious award for the second consecutive year is proof of AIA's effective human resources management philosophy. Our win-win approach enables both employer and employee to thrive as they contribute to the healthy development of the Company. As insurance is a people business, talent development and business strategy are closely intertwined. Guided by our Operating Philosophy of ‘Doing the Right Thing, In the Right Way, With the Right People and the Results will come', we will continue to ensure a happy workplace full of opportunities. As ‘The Real Life Company', AIA sees itself as the partner of its employees as they advance along their career path, and is committed to helping them live longer, healthier and better lives.”
AIA's vision is to be the world's pre-eminent life insurance provider. Our purpose is to play a leadership role in driving economic and social development across the region. As reinforced by our Employee Value Proposition of “Challenge, Empowerment, Growth”, AIA is dedicated to nurturing and developing its people, so that they can be the best that they can be. Leaders and department heads are key persons in shaping the culture of a company. AIA's human capital strategy attaches great importance to the development of senior management, helping them to inspire and encourage colleagues to seek breakthroughs and embrace the challenges ahead. The Company also identifies individuals displaying high potential and equips them to fill future leadership roles. In addition to a high performance culture, AIA encourages ongoing performance development dialogue, while also formally recognising the contributions of staff to boost morale.
AIA's excellent talent management strategy does not only ensure recruitment of the right talent, but also fosters a sense of belonging among the Company's employees. More than 10% of employees have over 20 years' service with AIA, and nearly 30% have served more than 10 years. The Company is also dedicated to developing its talent by presenting employees with a clearly defined career path, with more than 80% of senior management positions filled internally. In addition, AIA encourages staff mobility, empowering employees to broaden their horizons and enrich their work experience. Anyone who completes more than 18 months of service with the Company is entitled to apply for internal transfer for further development. AIA also considers diversity to be a core strength and competitive advantage. Job appointments are based purely on merit, with close to half of the Company's senior executives being women.
The Aon Hewitt Best Employers award is known for its comprehensive and rigorous assessment process. AIA Hong Kong was shortlisted for outperforming the Hong Kong benchmark in four key criteria: high employee engagement, high performance culture, effective leadership and compelling employer brand. The professional and proven methodology included an employee opinion survey to examine work satisfaction levels, a People Practice report from companies and a CEO interview to assess the overall performance of participating companies from different perspectives. These were then analysed by an independent, professional judging panel which selected the companies to be awarded with the “Best Employers” distinction.
Mr. Jim Jan Zen, Chief Agency Officer, Agency Distribution of AIA Hong Kong and Macau (left) and Ms. Pauline Teoh, Chief Partnership Distribution Officer of AIA Hong Kong and Macau (right) receive the “Best Employer Hong Kong” award on behalf of the Company. AIA is the first insurer ever in Hong Kong to be honoured with this accolade for two consecutive years.
